BRITISH DIRECTOR Steve McQueen has already won a bagful of gongs for 12 Years A Slave as the film awards season rolls on.

It is a close fight between him and Alfonso Cuaron, who directed Gravity, but the London-born film-maker has secured a number of best film awards for his slavery epic which stars Chiwetel Ejiofor and Michael Fassbender.

Here we re-live the moment when McQueen finds out at this month's Golden Globes that he has won best film for his masterpiece.

He will be crossing his fingers in the hope he will have same chance to make a speech at the Oscars on March 2.
