BIRMINGHAM MANAGED to overshadow London when it staged a glittering awards night for a diamond edition of the Black International Film Festival (BIFF) that was attended by a host of A-list stars.

It was a triumph for director and founder Dean Alexander who has resisted constant pressure from the capital for the past eight years to continue holding the festival – and its highlight, the much-celebrated Music, Video and Screen Awards (MViSAs) – in his home city.

Legendary actor Rudolph Walker co-hosted the ceremony at Birmingham’s International Convention Centre with comedian and TV presenter Angie Le Mar, as more than 800 guests mingled with actors from Britain’s best-loved TV soaps, dramas and documentaries.
