Friend or Follow

Hello Readers it’s Miss London here with my first blog of 2010!

This week I’ll be talking about the very interesting social networking site we call TWITTER!

Twitter is a virtual diary where you can blog about your inner most feelings as often as you like using only 140 characters!

I happen to have Twitter account set up – @funnymisslondon follow me!  I’ve had my account for a few months now and I’ve managed to accumulate a healthy 1,600 followers! Some of my ‘followers’ are personal friends, some are family members and some complete strangers who have chosen to follow my every move.

At first, Twitter seemed like a fun pastime, but after has become slightly serious of late – it even has its own set of Rules! Please find a few of them below:

Rule 1: Never follow more people than are following you

Rule 2: Don’t tweet too much

Rule 3: Don’t tweet too little

Rule 4: Don’t just retweet (RT) what other people say – it’s Boring!)

To be honest, a lot of people take Twitter far too seriously (myself included) as a result a few two distinguished groups have formed – the popular and unpopular!

For instance, I’m following American superstars such as Keri Hilson, Neyo and Lil Wayne who have each got around 500,000 followers each, which means they are literally unreachable! You can tweet (message them) until the cows come home and they won’t reply or even acknowledge you! If they do, you’re extremely lucky and as a reward you’ll probably gain a few followers yourself!

Then you’ve got British Urban stars such as Tinchy Stryder and Chipmunk who’ve got approximately 15,000 followers each. And while they’re not exactly unreachable, they’ll generally only talk to people with the same amount of followers or status.

Then you have the up and coming acts like comedians, DJs, unsigned signers/rappers and myself. We all have between 1,000 and 5,000 followers, which means we’re semi-popular! The American Stars don’t talk to us, but a few of our friends in the ‘British urban star’ circle may occasionally exchange a tweet with us

And then there are the people with under 1,000 followers who tend to be seen as the nobodies! These people in question could be anyone from bloggers, to uni students, urban models or just random people that tweet a lot!

Apparently 1000 followers is the benchmark to determine whether you’re a ‘Twitter somebody’ or a ‘Twitter nobody’

Pathetic isn’t it?

I will admit exclusively to The Voice that I am guilty of taking twitter far too seriously! It has literally taken over everything! I can access Twitter on my PC, my laptop and even my Blackberry! It’s so accessible now that I even know people that Tweet before they brush their teeth!

But how real is it? You could have 10,000,000 followers on Twitter, but do people really know you? I think we’ve all been sucked into the fantasy of it all. We have the power to say whatever we want and portray whoever we want in this virtual world, but in reality who are we?

The only aim on Twitter is to get more followers, but they’re not your friends and to be honest, not everyone that follows you on actually likes you! It’s also sad that your followers determine your status! For instance, rapper Chipmunk is deemed better than me because he has 15,000 followers and I have a measly 1,600. It’s crazy and very sad because it will only get worse! Pretty soon guys will be judging girls on how many followers they’ve got!

They’ll be like: “Yeah she’s nice but, she’s only got 200 followers!” Lol

That being said, no one can say what the future holds for Twitter, but what I can say is RIP FACEBOOK!!

Next week guys! x

It all depends on your looks and what you do. If you are either a sexy vixen, a cute girl or just juicy you tend to gain more followers, mainly men and people will start thinking of you as important.

Well Miss London… I don’t twitter Face book or MSN so my son has told me that i am a Technology “NEANDERTHAL”
I also agree that any system that rates you on how many followers you have is similar to the crowning of a Spartan only when he had killed over 400 enemies. This is surely not the way to go. As you state these followers do not know you or may not even be your friend this is another join link to the already superficial society that we all willingly or unwillingly now belong.RIP (the tradition phone call to people you actually love and care about and your alphabetical diary with just ten name and numbers..the good old days..
