Yaya Toure: Pep Guardiola ‘has problem with African players'

COMMENTS: Yaya Toure says he is not the only one to question Guardiola's treatment of African players

YAYA TOURE has accused Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola of having a problem with African players.

Toure made the comments in an interview with France Football.

Toure said: "It feels like he was jealous of me, he saw me as a rival... as if I was taking the limelight away from him.

"He was cruel with me. Do you really think he could've been like that with Iniesta?

"It got to the point I asked myself if it was because of my colour."

The 35-year-old said he and former Barcelona players noticed that Guardiola treated African players differently of African players.

"I'm not the first, other Barca players asked the question too. Maybe us Africans aren't always treated the same by certain people,” he said.

He added: "When you see the problems he [Pep] has often had with African players, everywhere he has been, I ask myself questions.

The former Manchester City midfielder said Guardiola is too “intelligent to be caught” and that he will buy him a cake if he ever picks a team with five African players in it.

"He's too intelligent to be caught. He'll never admit it [not liking Africans].

Toure played in Guardiola’s team first at Barcelona and again at Manchester City.

He made just one start in the Premier League last year and missed out on the EFL Cup final.

His contract at the club expired at the end of the season.
