Woods lands first big endorsement after sex scandal

A SMILE SAYS IT ALL: Golfer Tiger Woods has landed a major endorsement deal with Rolex

GOLFER TIGER Woods has signed a major endorsement with the world's biggest luxury watch brand, Rolex.

The reported five-year deal is the sportsman's first major partnership since his infamous sex scandal that shocked the world two years ago.

"Rolex is convinced that Tiger Woods still has a long career ahead of him and that he has all the qualities required to continue to mark the history of golf," Rolex said in a statement yesterday (Oct 5).

"The brand is committed to accompanying him in his new challenges. This association pays tribute to the exceptional stature of Tiger Woods and the leading role he plays in forging the sport's global appeal. It also constitutes a joint commitment to the future," the statement continued.

Woods, who is a 14-times major champion, lost five major endorsement deals, including Gillette, mobile giant AT&T and watchmaker Tag Heuer, when it was revealed that he had affairs with up to 14 women in 2009.

The former world number one who hasn't triumphed since the 2009 Australian Masters, has seen his ranking drop outside the world's top 50 for the first time in 15 years. He now ranks at number 51.

"This makes a big statement and I think this shows me where people are with Tiger Woods," Mark Steinberg, Woods' agent said in a statement.

Woods returns next week to the PGA Tour at the Open
