Woods attempts to get back into full swing

TIGER WOODS has revealed that he is looking forward to the new season as it will be the first time he has been fully fit in over eight years.

Speaking ahead of his first appearance at the Abu Dhabi Championship, which starts on Thursday, the former World No.1 admitted: “It's been quite a few years since I've been physically fit. So I'm looking forward to getting out there and giving it a full season, which I haven't done in a while. I'm looking forward to this year."

Woods won his first title in over two years at the Chevron World Challenge in December but the 36-year-old credits his showing in Australia, where he finished third in the Open and won against Aaron Baddeley in the Presidents Cup, as the key step forward: “Australia was big. I hit so many good shots, especially when the wind was howling at 30mph, with gusts at more than that. When I went into the World Challenge I was very excited that I had control of my game and it turned out that way."

"I played really well at the Open, then carried on in the Presidents Cup and basically continued that trend in the World Challenge. Hopefully I can build on that heading into this year and get ready for Augusta.”

Abu Dhabi is his first tournament of 2012 and he could make a return to the world’s top 10 if he were to win. The tournament will be a real test with the world’s top four also competing and he has been paired with two of them- no. 1 Luke Donald and US Open champion Rory McIlroy- for the opening two rounds.

However, Woods admitted all his focus would be on his own game, declaring: “The game plan is still the same. Every event I play in is to try to win. I demonstrated to myself what I can do, if I’m physically fit to do it. I’m looking to build on the end of last year.”
