Whitney 'did not' drown

GONE: Singer Whitney Houston is said to have died of a mix of prescription drugs

WHITNEY HOUSTON is said to have died from a mix of prescription drugs, the LA coroner's office has reportedly confirmed.

The 48-year-old singer is said to have died from a combination of Xanax and other prescription drugs, which had been mixed with alcohol, family sources claim they were told by the coroner's office, reports gossip site, TMZ.

Preliminary tests on the star showed that there wasn't enough water in her lungs to cite drowning as the cause of her death as previously reported, the sources said.

Whitney's body was found in the bathtub of her fourth-floor room at the Beverly Hills hotel on Saturday. She had been staying there ahead of last night's Grammy Awards ceremony.

The I Will Always Love You star's mother, Cissy, has reportedly arranged to have the singer's body flown to Atlanta as early as tomorrow.
