West Indies toil in historic day/night Test

DAY ONE of the first day/night Test in England between England and the West Indies belonged to the home side.

Alastair Cook and Joe Root both hit centuries as England dominated.

Cook batted through the day for his unbeaten 153, sharing 248 with Root, who made 136, as England hit 348-3 at Edgbaston.

The run fest came after the visitors made a sensational start.

The hosts were reduced to 39-2 in the 8th over but thereafter Cook and Root were in total command.

Star man for the West Indians was fast bowler Kemar Roach who took two wickets.
