Usain Bolt leaves Australian football club

OUT: Usain Bolt

USAIN BOLT's trial with Australian club Central Coast Mariners has ended, after the 32-year-old wannabe footballer rejected their offer for professional terms.

The eight-time Olympic champion, who joined the side near Sydney in August wanted a lucrative deal, but the A-League outfit's offer was widely off the mark.

“I would like to thank the Central Coast Mariners’ owners, management, staff, players and fans for making me feel so welcome during my time there,” Bolt said in a statement released by the club.

Mariners were understood to have offered Bolt a deal at 1/20th of his agent's demands, and without any guarantee that the Jamaican legend would play any A-League matches.

Mariners’ owner Mike Charlesworth explained: “We have been thrilled to have him as part of our club for these past eight weeks.

"For the Mariners, it has been a pleasure to work with Usain as he pursued his desire to become a professional football player.

"This has been a mutually beneficial partnership that brought an increased level of excitement and attention to both the Mariners and the A-League."
