Two charged with police shooting

POLICE SHOOTING: Two men charged

TWO MEN have been charged in connection with the shooting of an unarmed Met Police officer in south London last week [July 15].

Demar Provan, 21, and Adewale Ogunsanya, 22, have been charged with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and possession of ammunition.

The unidentified officer was shot in the arm after one of the men opened fire in Kingsdown Avenue, south Croydon. His injuries are not said to be life-threatening.

A Met spokesman said police were called to the scene after reports that a group of men were seen acting suspiciously, but the men ran off when a patrol car arrived.

He said as the officers chased the suspects on foot, one suspect produced a handgun and shots were fired.

Commander Tony Eastaugh told BBC news: "I am outstandingly proud of our officers who put themselves in positions of danger on a daily basis to protect the communities of London.

"It is sad that an unarmed officer has been shot whilst performing his duty to the public. Our thoughts are with him and his family".

It is understood that Trident, the Met's specialist unit for gun crime in the black community, is now investigating the incident.
