Tributes pour in for Cyrille Regis

TRIBUTES DEDICATED to Cyrille Regis are pouring in, following news of his death.

Labour MP David Lammy mourned the loss of the former Coventry, West Brom and England striker on Twitter. He wrote: "So sad to hear that Cyrille Regis has passed. He was an icon, a trailblazer and a hero in my household growing up. So many footballers of colour have stood on his shoulders. What a legacy. Rest In Peace."

Andrew Cole said: "Devastated this morning my hero my pioneer the man behind the reason I wanted to play football has passed away ???? my heart goes out to all his family RIP Cyrille Regis"

Former Midlands Football reporter Pat Murphy paid tribute to the legendary footballer, tweeting: "In all my decades of covering Midlands football,there has been no figure more admired or loved among we reporters."

Kick It Out has also issued a statement following the death of Cyrille. "Kick It Out is shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of former West Bromwich Albion forward Cyrille Regis at the age of 59.

"Cyrille was a pioneer of English football, becoming one of the first iconic Black players of the professional game, alongside former Albion team-mates Laurie Cunningham and Brendon Batson.

"Following his career, Cyrille was a great supporter of the organisation's work helping to tackle racism in the sport, kindly donating his time and efforts to Kick It Out on numerous occasions.”
