MISSING OUT: Zharnel Hughes
GREAT BRITAIN sprinter Zharnel Hughes will miss the Rio Olympic Games with a knee injury.
The 20-year-old has been affected by a ligament problem, which was caused by a fall earlier in the season.
He posted on Instagram: “Sad that I’ll miss out on my first Olympics due to a knee injury.
“It’s a bit disappointing, but God knows best and I trust him that everything’s going to be okay.”
Hughes, who is the fourth fastest Briton over 200 metres in history, finished seventh in his heat at the European Athletics Championships in Amsterdam on Thursday (Jul 7).
The Anguillan-born sprinter clocked 21.21 seconds, falling significantly short of the 20.02 secs which he ran to secure fifth pace at last year’s World Championships – in his first major final.
