Super sub wins it for West Ham Women

HAMMER TIME: Rosie Kmita fires home against Yeovil

SUPER SUB Rosie Kmita’s late strike in the seventy-ninth minute gave West Ham United Women three crucial points at the Rush Green Stadium against Yeovil Town Ladies FC (Sep 30). Just moments after taking the field, Kmita fired home to register the Hammers’ first win in The FA Women’s Super League (WSL).

Last season’s skipper continues to justify her statement deal which saw her become the first women’s professional footballer in West Ham’s history.

Having previously helped her side to win the Goodmove.co.uk Women’s Cup and Women’s Premier League Plate, Kmita’s latest show of quality saw her turn round a match that looked to be heading for a draw. Her winning goal was testament to her athletic prowess. She showed pace and composure after a long ball put her in on goal. Her left-footed effort gave Yeovil ‘keeper Megan Walsh no chance.

Kmita took to Twitter to share her thoughts on the game: “So pleased to be able to contribute towards our first 3 points – love this team.” Speaking ahead of the fixture she said “I was filled with pure excitement when I started against Millwall. It is mad how everything has worked out”.

“I didn’t ever expect all of this when I came to West Ham, but being in this team and this environment has shown me that I can be a player in top-flight football.”
