NEW DEAL IN THE OFFING: Raheem Sterling was in blistering form last term

LIVERPOOL ARE ready to show Raheem Sterling how much they value his rapid improvement with a hugely improved contract after rumours started circulating that Real Madrid are interested in the player.

The winger is currently on around £30,000 a week at the Merseyside club, but he has undoubtedly been the most improved player for club and country this year, after impressing for England during their disastrous time in Brazil.

His manager, Brendan Rodgers, has been eulogising about the the teenager this week prior to the start of their season, describing the player as "turning into a beautiful young man".

Rodgers added: “His identity is he has to score goals and create goals. That’s what the job is.

“He scored 10 goals last year and this kid is only going to get better.

“When you’re so young, it’s important to understand exactly what your role is, not just look good. You have to be efficient and effective.

"His development has gone to a new level. He’s way above the level from when he first came in.”

Sterling moved to the club in 2010, after coming up through the youth system at Queens Park Rangers.

The Jamaican-born player has appeared for England at all levels from Under-16 upwards and has scored 11 goals in his 57 appearances for Liverpool.
