Spurs player sidelined with knee injury

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR and Cameroon defender Benoit Assou-Ekotto could be out of action for four weeks after sustaining a knee injury.

The 28-year-old left-back missed Spurs’ 3-1 win against Reading yesterday (September 16) at the Madejski Stadium and may need surgery to fix the problem.

For the past four years Assou-Ekotto has been a regular starter for the north London club but looks set for a spell on the sidelines.

"Benoît has a small fragment in his knee that makes it swell a lot," said Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas. "He has played through pain in the last couple of games. His knee may have to be washed up and, if that happens, we are looking at a four-week absence."

Full-back Kyle Naughton replaced Assou-Ekotto against Reading and could once again start in Tottenham’s next match against Queens Park Rangers at White Hart Lane on September 22.
