Sharmadean Reid awarded MBE

WAH NAILS founder Sharmadean Reid has received an MBE for her pioneering work in the nail and beauty industry.

The 34-year-old entrepreneur was awarded the honour from the Princess Royal today (Oct 18) at Buckingham Palace.

The news was shared on the Royal Family Twitter, where they shared a photo of Reid with the caption: "Businesswoman Sharmadean Reid proudly displays the MBE insignia for services to the nail and beauty industry which she received from The Princess Royal at Buckingham Palace earlier today."

Reid took to social media and said of the prestigious appointment: "I'm very proud to be acknowledged for pioneering a nail trend that grew to a £250m industry in the UK, for employing over 100 women in last 9yrs at @wahnails for starting @FutureGirlCorp where over 2000 women subscribe to receive business support. More for women/beauty with @beautystack.

A former fashion stylist and brand consultant, Reid started started WAH as a hip hop magazine for girls in 2006 while still at university. She then founded WAH Nails as a side project in 2009.

Alongside this, she has organised business events for young female entrepreneurs culminating in futuregirlcorp.com. She also founded Beautystack, a visual booking system for influential beauty professionals.

Many have taken to social media to congratulate Reid on the honour.
