Saluting our champions

LEGENDS: Mo Farah and Usain Bolt

IRONICALLY TWO of the greatest athletes of all time retire from the world of track and field after this evening's relay at the IAAF World Championships.

Sir Mo Farah and Usain Bolt – (surely a knighthood is not too far away) – hang up their glittering spikes after stellar careers that have captivated global audiences.

Sir Mo is a multiple Olympic, World and European champion and without doubt Great Britain’s greatest ever athlete.

CHAMPIONSHIPS

He recently became the first athlete to win three long distance doubles at successive World Championships and Olympic Games, securing his place in the history books by winning yet another double gold at Rio 2016. There are a clutch of athletes that have put their country on the map through the medium of sport but few have been adopted by as many nations as Bolt. Mobbed wherever he goes on the planet, his 15 years in track and field will never be forgotten.

SACRIFICES

They are truly two of a kind. Both have worked hard to hone their talent and the sacrifices have been many. The dynamic duo will be sorely missed, not just for their athletic ability but also for the charisma and class they brought to their sport.

We salute greatness personified.
