Riots spark fears for Notting Hill Carnival

IS IT OVER?: Carnival organisers will discuss whether this year’s carnival will go ahead in the light of the riots

THE ORGANISERS of the Notting Hill Carnival are to meet with police next week (Aug 11) to discuss whether to go ahead with the carnival in the wake of London’s riots.

Ancil Barclay, director of London Notting Hill Carnival Limited told The Voice organisers are due to meet with police and will let the public know their decision tomorrow.

“It’s far too early to speculate,’ said Barclay. “By Friday, you should get something from us as to our position.”

However, on Monday, The Met Police’s Deputy Assistant Commissioner Steve Kavanagh reassured the public that the carnival is likely to go ahead.
