Rihanna stuns in ads for new Dior sunglasses collaboration

NEW COLLABORATION: Rihanna

RIHANNA KNOWS a thing or two about shade, whether its her sharp comebacks or her eye for a lucrative opportunity.

Hot on the heels of her collaboration with luxury shoe designer Manolo Blahnik, the singing superstar is continuing her collaborative reign as the creative force behind Dior’s latest eyewear range.

The collection, simply titled Rihanna, features one futuristic frame design with six colour variations including an opulent 24-carat gold-plated version.

The frames will be available at Dior stores from June with a price tag of £580. However, if you want to stunt like Ri-Ri, the gold-plated option will set you back £1330.

This will be the singer’s second major collaboration with the French fashion house since she made history as the first black spokesmodel in its entire history.

"The process was pretty seamless," the 28-year-old said of the collaboration, revealing that La Forge from Star Trek was her design inspiration.

INSPIRATION: La Forge

"I spent a day at Dior with their eyewear design team. I started by looking through all the archives to see what they've done in the past, then got acquainted with all the new materials. I literally sat there and drew and drew until I was happy with the design, and the team illustrated it for me right then and there. We picked materials and colours that same day, and after that it was a matter of weeks before I saw the first prototype."

"We are very pleased to partner for the second time with Rihanna," Dior's CEO Sidney Toledano said, referring to the Secret Garden IV campaign for the house, which she starred in last year.

"She is an artist, an entertainer, an entrepreneur, a philanthropist, and a style icon for today's generation."
