TRIBUTES: Ricky Harris

EVERYBODY HATES Chris star Ricky Harris has died. He was 54.

His manager Cindy Ambers told The Hollywood Reporter that Harris died of a heart attack on Boxing Day.

Although the cause of his death has not been confirmed, Ambers said he had a heart attack two years ago.

The actor and comedian rose to fame for his roles in the Chris Rock sitcom as well as successful films such as Heat in which he starred with Al Pacino and Poetic Justice alongside Janet Jackson as well as appearing on albums by rappers Snoop Dogg and Ice Cube.

Tributes to Harris, a native of long Beach, California, were led by Cedric The Entertainer and Dogg who said: “I lost one of my dear friends today. [He] was the first comedian to make it from Long Beach, the first entertainer from Long Beach to make it. My big brother.”

Harris was a regular on the Russell Simmons-produced Def Comedy Jam, with the likes of Chris Rock and Chris Tucker, who led the new generation of African American comics that emerged in the 90s.
