Reconnecting with Jamaica

FLYING THE FLAG: The Jamaican Diaspora will get a chnace to air their views

THE JAMAICAN Diaspora UK is organising a series of events across Britain to give Jamaicans living here a chance to meet and talk with members of the National Housing Trust and the Registrar General of Jamaica.

There will be an opportunity to book private appointments and listen to public presentations between October 3-10 at seven venues across the UK including Birmingham, Sheffield, Leeds, Nottingham, Luton, London and Bristol.

The free meetings are open to all Jamaicans and will cover a variety of topics such as queries and issues surrounding computerisation and changes in birth, deaths and marriages record keeping and also land administration.

There will also be information on tax compliance certification, changes to Jamaican housing loan policies and updates from the Jamaican High Commission.

Desmond Jaddoo, who is helping to organise the West Midland event on Wednesday October 3 at The Drum arts centre in Potters Lane Aston, Birmingham, said: “This is an opportunity for the Jamaican community to reconnect and also to hear about the latest initiatives directly from the National Housing Trust by attending these presentations which include time for private appointments.

“The Registrar General will be there to deal directly with queries, so it is an ideal opportunity to connect directly face to face with these agencies. The Diaspora is working on keeping the community connected with Jamaica.”

The Birmingham event at the Drum will be held between 4.30pm and 6pm for private appointments, which need to be pre-booked, and 6.30pm and 8.30pm for a public session.
