Quarter of Voice readers say Balotelli deserves criticism

CRITICISM: Balotelli (PA)

MORE THAN one-quarter of respondents to a Voice online poll believe that Liverpool forward Mario Balotelli deserves criticism over his recent performances for the club.

The 24-year-old striker appears to have the scapegoat for Liverpool’s stuttering start to the season, following the summer departure of Luis Suarez to Barcelona.

Balotelli has managed two goals in 13 appearances so far this season after he was signed by Reds boss Brendan Rodgers in August for a reported fee of £16m, and the Italian has been subject to intense scrutiny by sports writers and football pundits.

The majority of poll respondents (59 per cent) thought Balotelli was getting an unfair amount of flak, while 14 per cent voted that he was not being unfairly treated.

Tellingly though, 26 per cent opted for the choice that “He deserves the criticism”.

Meanwhile, Rodgers appears to be losing patience and left Balotelli as an unused substitute during Liverpool’s midweek 1-0 defeat against Real Madrid in the Champions League.
