Porto fined after Balotelli gets racially abused

TARGETED: Balotelli

PORTUGUESE FOOTBALL club FC Porto have been fined a five-figure sum after their supporters were found guilty of racially abusing a Manchester City footballer.

Porto were fined £16,684 by UEFA after striker Mario Balotelli was subjected to racial abuse during City’s 2-1 win at the Estadio do Dragao on February 16.

A UEFA statement that was published on the Blues’ website said: "The UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body has imposed a fine of 20,000 euros on FC Porto for racist conduct of their supporters...”

Porto, who have several players of multiple ethnicities, can appeal the decision.

Balotelli has previously been the target of racist chants from fans.

In 2010, the 21-year-old Ghanaian-born Italian was racially taunted by his own supporters during a friendly between Italy and Romania in Austria.
