From politics to the pulpit!

DEFEATED FORMER Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) mayor of Portmore, Keith Hinds, could be leaving the political platform for the pulpit following his defeat in yesterday's mayoral election in the country.

"I will return to business life to earn a living like everybody else. But you might even see me in the ministry. I have a degree in theology you know so I have options for another platform," a laughing Hinds told The Gleaner yesterday.

Hinds was defeated by George Lee, whom he defeated in December 2007. In a game of political musical chairs between the pair since 2003, Lee prevailed in the municipality dogged by political deadlock in the last four years.

When Hinds took over the reins of the municipality, he found himself leading a council with a majority of councillors representing the People's National Party (PNP) and the work of the council became embroiled in politics with a protracted blame game between the mayor and the councillors.

Hinds said in the last term of office, "I used lime to make lemonade. Next time I will make squash."

According to him, the JLP has lots of issues to deal with, but the party will bounce back.
