FACING CLOSURE? Hulme and Moss Side market
AN ONLINE petition, which hopes to stop the closure of the only African-Caribbean in Manchester, has been launched.
The Save Hulme Market Community Protest petition, which was set up on Facebook over the weekend, has already attracted close to 300 signatures of disgruntled locals opposed the closure of the popular Hulme and Moss Side market.
The market, which has been in operation for 10 years, is reportedly being closed down after it was bought off of
French company Gearud and sold to B&M, fueling speculations that the landmark may disappear or be converted.
Kevin Gallagher, wrote: "I Think it’s outrageous that B & M can come along a take peoples livelihoods away that they have built for years."
Poster Diamond Kay added: "I can't believe the council, are even considering knocking this place down. This market is the heart of Hulme & is the only original building we have left.As most things have been scrapped & modernised."
"I can say I can not see B n M progressing in this area, as there is an instore near by & they offer similar products which are a very similar in price which is a cliché. Please save this BUILDING!!! [sic]," she added.
B&M are yet to issue an official statement.
