WINNING: Actresses Octavia Spencer and Viola Davis were nominated for Academy Awards
ACTRESS VIOLA Davis has been nominated for an Oscar for her role as maid Aibileen Clark in last year's smash film, The Help, it was announced today.
Davis, who was nominated in the 'Best Actress' category, is up against Glenn Close, Rooney Mara, Michelle Williams and heavyweight thespian, Meryl Streep at the February ceremony.
This marks the second time the 46-year-old has been nominated for the prestigious award. In 2009 she received a nomination for 'Best Supporting Actress' for her role in Doubt.
Davis was also nominated for a Golden Globe award for the same role but lost to fellow nominee, Meryl Streep.
Her co-star Octavia Spencer received her first Oscar nomination for 'Best Supporting Actress' for her portrayal of the outspoken Minny Jackson in acclaimed film. She received a Golden Globe award for the role at last week's ceremony.
The Help, a film about the life of domestic workers living and working in segregated Mississippi at the beginning of the Civil Rights era, also earned a 'Best Picture' nod.
The 84th Academy Awards show will take place in the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles on February 26.
