Mum 'drunk' when she gunned down her four children

TRAGIC: Tonya Thomas shot four children before turning the gun on herself

A MOTHER who shot her four children and herself dead at her Florida home in May allegedly had 'two times the legal limit of alcohol in her system'.

According to local paper Florida Today Tonya Thomas, 33, had 'approximately 10 drinks in her body' when she fatally shot her children Joel Johnson, 12, Jazzlyn Johnson, 13, Jaxs Johnson, 15, and Pebbles Johnson, 17, before killing herself.

Thomas was found dead on her sofa from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Brevard County Medical Examiner Dr. Sajid Qaiser told the newspaper that the children appeared 'healthy and had no drugs in their blood', according to his autopsy reports.

Dr. Bruce Goldberger, a professor and the director of toxicology in the Department of Pathology, Immunology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Florida College of Medicine told FT: “The legal limit is .08 (percent). She’s twice the limit. Obviously she was impaired by alcohol at the time of this event.”

“It [alcohol] does reduce normal inhibitions, maybe that played some role in this as well, that in a sober state she may not have done this action,” he said. “She was more free to act out."

“At the time she died, she had approximately 10 drinks in her body,” he said.

The case is has officially been closed.
