Maya Angelou to feature on Common's new album

COLLABORATION: Common and poet Dr. Maya Angelou get musical on his new album

RAPPER COMMON has revealed that his new album will feature an unlikely collaboration with Dr. Maya Angelou.

In a recent interview with The Boombox, the 39-year-old revealed that the pair will recite original material on his latest project, The Dreamer, The Believer.

The hip-hop star befriended Pulitzer Prize nominee Angelou after she stepped in as a guest speaker at the last minute for a fundraising event he was organising - and he decided to turn to the veteran author when he was putting together his new project, thanks to his mum.

"I met Maya Angelou [at] a benefit I was doing for this foundation. [A] poet was supposed to do it and he didn't, so my mother [asked] somebody who worked on my team, 'Why don't we see if we can get in touch with Maya Angelou?'

"Out of nowhere she [Maya] was like, 'OK, I'll do it.' So she did it and we've been cool ever since," he said.

The new song, entitled The Dreamer, is rumoured to be the rapper's next single.
