Manchester businesswoman lands top deal

BOSS LADY: Melissa Drummond, 33, Managing Director of CUE Marketing

JOURNALIST AND former model Melissa Drummond first spoke with 'The Voice' about her entrepreneurial foray into one of the most coveted sub-sectors of fashion - the representation and promotion of models - back in 2012. Since then, the 33 year-old has been busy laying the groundwork and developing her latest venture; Manchester-based CUE Marketing.

CUE is described online as a “full-service boutique marketing agency” and despite working with the likes of the Odeon cinema chain and being nominated for awards at The Talk of Manchester Business Awards and the FSB Greater Manchester Business Awards; the brand has up to now had a relatively low profile. A new client, Manchester Hall, has hired Drummond and CUE to manage their VIP launch event, which takes place on Bridge Street, M3 on October 19.

Manchester Hall is a Grade II-listed building in the heart of a busy Manchester Street and will play host to those wishing to hold important occasions such as weddings there, as well as businesses looking for conference facilities.

CUE has also bagged the marketing account for neighbouring Masons Restaurant Bar, which also opens in October.

Presiding over more than 100% growth in the last year in terms of staff numbers, Drummond is going from strength to strength after successfully reinventing herself after freelance writing at The Voice and the BBC, modelling and running the groundbreaking Cliché Models; an agency specialising in black and minority ethnic (BME) models. As Cliché became more successful, potential clients began to ask marketing graduate Drummond for strategic advice, which led to Drummond’s decision to narrow her focus and begin CUE.

October is shaping-up to be a landmark month for Drummond, who is moving her team of marketeers, designers, social media experts, interior designers and media relations staff into a brand new home. As of next month, CUE will operate from their purpose-built H-CUE offices on trendy Chapel Street in Salford.

Drummond says:

“I can’t believe how far we’ve come - in the past year especially we’ve been expanding really quickly.

“I think up until now the success we’ve been having has been a little bit under the radar, but with the upcoming launch of Manchester Hall all that’s set to change.

“I’d like to think my agency’s success can inspire other young women, especially from the BME community, to give it a go at business.

“We’ve got a great team dynamic at CUE, we’re a team that is really supportive and encouraging; and that reflects in the service we give to our clients. The move to our new offices is really a display of confidence in what we do and how we do it.”
