The man who could DJ at Prince Harry's wedding, speaks

WHEN OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS: Jevanni Letford

Q: Hi Jevanni! Tell our readers a little bit more about yourself

Jevanni Letford: I am a 28-year-old lawyer, DJ and radio presenter from Leyton, east London. I also run my own events company called Chicken 'n' Beer, organising a variety of events including festivals, brunches and night time events. We often get sponsorship and have worked with various brands and our next event is a Bottomless Brunch Party on March 10!

Q: How long have you been involved with Reprezent FM?

JL: I have been in and around the Reprezent family for a couple of years now. My first guest appearance and mix was in June 2016. I then made several guest appearances before covering a couple of shows and eventually landing my own slot in November 2017.

Q: What was it like to meet Prince Harry and Meghan Markle?

JL: It was a brief exchange, but a life-changing one at that. Prince Harry and Meghan were both very warm, graceful and down to earth. The fact that Prince Harry stepped out to receive the card, I feel demonstrates the type of person he is. The world now knows who Jevanni Letford is and the amount of opportunities that have come from the encounter, I could not have paid to have had.

Q: How do you feel their visit has added to the Reprezent initiative to assist young people?

JL: The visit has certainly shed more light on who Reprezent are and what they do. It has motivated the people who are already involved in the station to continue developing, and has further inspired others to get involved. Reprezent definitely helps to equip young creative people with the skills to have a good career in music and creative industries.

Q: Not many people have as much courage and confidence to slip their business card to a member of the royal family! What made you decide to do it?

JL: It wasn't something I had really given much thought to. I always keep business cards with me and as they walked past, I had a "now or never" moment. Took the card out of my pocket, and handed it to the Prince.

Q: If you were to DJ at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding, what would be the top 5 tracks you'd play?

JL:
1. Luther Vandross & Beyonce - The Closer I Get To You
2. Cameo - Candy
3. Montell Jordan - This Is How We Do It
4. Journey - Don't Stop Believing
5. National Anthem (Jevanni Letford Remix) or Abba - Dancing Queen - for The Queen to shake her leg too.

I would also throw in some tunes for the culture should the vibe of the evening permit. Really and truly though, I would sit down with Prince Harry and Meghan to find out what they wanted to hear, and tailor a bespoke set for them, as I do with all my clients. Naturally, I would also be reading the crowd on the actual night and playing accordingly.

Q: Lastly, what are your plans for the year? - other than a potential DJ slot at the biggest wedding of the year lol

JL: There's so much in the pipeline for this year. As I mentioned, we are launching our bottomless brunch series in March (Chicken n Beer). I am also launching my creative platform Motive (@PreeTheMotive) in which I plan to use creativity to inspire the youth to get creative and create. I have a DJ mix going out on KISS this month as well.

Aside from that I am currently writing a book, and pursuing a couple of presenting and TV opportunities along with still being legal counsel at Nissan. I'm hoping that I am able to continue creating throughout the year!
