Man gets life for killing teen

SENTENCED: Jerome Ersland, left, was sentenced to life in prison for shooting and killing 16-year-old Antwun Parker

A MAN who shot and killed a 16-year-old boy for attempting to rob a pharmacy where he worked was sentenced to life in prison this week (July 11).

Jerome Ersland was charged with first-degree murder for shooting Antwun Parker a total of six times when he tried to rob the Oklahoma store with an unnamed accomplice in May 2009.

The 59-year-old’s self-defence plea was dismissed by the jury after it emerged that he shot Parker in the head and then five more times as he lay unconscious on the floor.

Medical examiners found that it was the additional bullets that led to the schoolboy’s death.

Ersland chased the other robber out of The Discount Reliable Pharmacy in South Oklahoma, but he escaped unharmed.

It has been reported that Ersland has called his sentencing “an injustice of a monumental proportion.”
