London man jailed for possession of meat cleaver and drugs

Jerome Edmondson-Jackson was jailed for possession of cannabis and a blade

A MAN from south London has been sentenced to seven months in prison after being found in possession of a meat cleaver and Class B drugs.

Jerome Edmondson-Jackson, 32, of Kennington Road in Lambeth, was sentenced at Croydon Crown Court last week.

Edmondson-Jackson was arrested on October 7 2014, after officers spotted a VW Golf driving erratically on Manor Park Road, Thornton Heath.

Officers searched the vehicle after noticing a strong smell of cannabis.

Officers also noticed Edmondson-Jackson trying to conceal something under his passenger seat. When they searched the vehicle, they found a meat cleaver in a bag, tucked under the seat.

Edmondson-Jackson was charged the next day on October 8 2014 with one count of possession of Class B drugs and one count of possession of a bladed article.

He pleaded not guilty to all offences but was found guilty by a jury.

Officer in the case detective constable Jennifer Williams, from Croydon CID, said: "Edmondson-Jackson was travelling in London with a large meat cleaver under his seat. We will not tolerate anyone found in possession of bladed articles and we will do our best to bring cases such as this one before a judge."
