Little Mix star blasts Love Island for lack of diversity

OUTRAGE: Leigh Anne-Pinnock

LITTLE MIX singer Leigh Anne-Pinnock, has called out popular ITV2 show Love Island for their lack of diversity, and vowed to stop watching the show.

Pinnock was less than impressed after show bosses threw in twelve new faces on Thursday night, and introduced a new villa - which included only one person of colour.

The 26-year-old star slammed the show publicly on Twitter, telling fans she will no longer be watching.

She tweeted: “How many weeks in and we are yet to see hardly any diversity in @LoveIsland I’m tuning off! #disappointed #diversity x Leigh.”

The tweet comes amid a wave of criticism from viewers who've branded the programme a “huge problem in a society,” and have shared their concerns for contestant Samira Mighty - the only black woman on the show who has had a particularly hard time finding a love interest.

One tweeted: “HONESTLYYYY #loveisland producers what is going through your heads when you’re chooseing the same person, over and over again. WE NEED SOME DIVERSITY.”

Another user said: "The new group coming into the villa are looking about WHITE! We’re asking for diversity in skin colour and body shape, not more northerners / non Essex residents ????#Loveisland."

Blogger and body activist Grace Victory also tweeted: "I really believe @LoveIsland and @itv2 need to seriously address this lack of diversity and representation because honestly I am VEX. Everyone is literally vanilla with a dash of chai and I’m bored of it. #LoveIsland"
