Labour MP Dawn Butler shortlisted for LGBT ally award

NOMINATED: Dawn Butler

LABOUR MP Dawn Butler has been shortlisted for a major LGBT ally award by readers of DIVA magazine.

The magazine, popular with gay and bi-sexual women, will hold its annual awards on June 8 at the Waldorf Hilton in London.

Ms Butler, who is Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State for Women and Equalities, has been working to advance the rights of the LGBT+ community in the role.

Singer Sinitta, TV presenter Denise Welch, and comedian John Bishop have also been nominated for the award.

Equalities campaigner and owner of DIVA Magazine Linda Riley, said: “All of those nominated for DIVA awards are very deserving. Our readers are impressed that Dawn is using her platform to challenge homophobia and back LGBT+ rights. It is impressive that she is suing her position to keep LGBT issues high on the political agenda. ”

A series of name celebrities are set to grace the red carpet at the annual DIVA bash.

Other award nominees include model Cara Delevingne and singer Dua Lipa.
