DIRECTOR: Kwame Kwei-Armah has revealed details of the Young Vic theatre's new programme

KWAME KWEI-ARMAH, the Young Vic’s new artistic director, has announced details of his first season at the theatre.

His inaugural season at the Young Vic, which began as an offshoot of the Old Vic, will kick off with a musical version of Twelfth Night in the theatre’s main house. Kwei-Armah co-directs the adaptation of William Shakespeare’s play, which the Young Vic describes as “Shakespeare meets his match as brass bands and Beyoncé weave through this enchanting musical adaptation”.

Kwei-Armah said: “Beyond proud (and maybe a little scared) to have announced my first season Young Vic theatre this morning, kicking off with Twelfth Night. Come we go!”

Kwei-Armah has also revealed that £5 tickets will be available for the first preview performance of every show held in the theatre’s main house.

The 51-year-old returned his role in the US as the director of Baltimore’s Center Stage to take up the position at the Young Vic.
