RIP: Musician Clifford Adams
DISCO BAND Kool & the Gang are mourning the loss of their longtime trombonist, Clifford Adams.
The musician died yesterday morning (Jan 12), aged 62 .
He had been battling liver cancer for a year. According to reports the trombonist "had no heath insurance to cover medical expenses" during his cancer struggle.
Adams' fellow musicians, family and friends attempted to raise money through fundraisers for a liver transplant prior to his death.
Longtime friend and fellow Kool & the Gang musician Michael Ray mourned Adams' loss.
"This was my closest and my oldest friend," the trumpet player told NJ.com. "If you knew Cliff you knew his infectious smile and his strong spirit. … He was powered by family values and he was one of the baddest trombone players in all the planet."
Adams performed with Kool & the Gang regularly at various times throughout the group's 51-year history.
The group most notably scored a US number-one hit with Celebration in 1980, and also reached the top ten with Ladies' Night and Too Hot.
Adams also played with The Stylistics, Patti Labelle and the Bluebells.
