LIVERPOOL CAPTAIN fantastic Steven Gerrard is expected to “kick some ass” when he joins Major League Soccer’s LA Galaxy next season, according to NBA star Kobe Bryant.

The famous US basketballer announced his admiration for the 34-year-old former England midfielder after it was confirmed Gerarrd had signed an 18-month contract with the West Coast club for a reported £3.9m per year in wages.

Speaking in a video on Galaxy’s official website, Bryant, who plays for LA Lakers, welcomed the news and said: “What can I say, man? Welcome to Los Angeles.

“Welcome to La La Land, and hopefully that means bringing another championship to the Galaxy. I'm sure it will.

“I'm looking forward to getting out there and watching you do your thing.”

The Lakers guard added: “I've been a fan of yours for a very, very long time, and your versatility, and your aggressiveness, and your leadership.

“Kick some ass in the process. I'll be down there rooting you on my man. Peace.”

Gerrard himself thinks the move will bear divine fruit; he told the LA Times: “I think it's a match made in heaven really.

“One of the reasons I chose LA Galaxy was because of the success they've had recently.”
