Jennifer Hudson to lead Whitney Grammy tribute

TRIBUTE: Jennifer Hudson and Whitney Houston backstage at the 51st annual Grammy Awards in 2009

JENNIFER HUDSON will honour the late Whitney Houston with a musical tribute at tonight's Grammy Awards, it has been reported.

The awards’ executive producer Ken Ehrlich told the L.A. Times that the Spotlight singer would perform a “respectful” tribute to the the 48-year-old during the ceremony.

"It's too fresh in everyone's memory to do more at this time, but we would be remiss if we didn't recognize Whitney's remarkable contribution to music fans in general, and in particular her close ties with the Grammy telecast and her Grammy wins and nominations over the years,” he said of the six-time Grammy-winner.

Chaka Khan will also reportedly join Hudson on the stage to commemorate Houston, who was declared dead at 3:55 pm on yesterday at the Beverly Hilton Hotel - the same hotel where a pre-Grammys party hosted by Clive Davis. Her death is currently under investigation and no cause of death has been determined.

At the pre-Grammys gala, which went on as planned, Mr Davis asked for a moment of silence as an image of the singer was shown on the screen.

"I am personally devastated by the loss of someone who has meant so much to me," has been quoted Davis as saying.

"Simply put: Whitney would have wanted the music to go on."

The 79-year-old mogul was seen being comforted by singer Alicia Keys outside the hotel.
