FINED: Puncheon (PA)
JASON PUNCHEON has been fined for his posts on Twitter about his old manager Neil Warnock after he criticised the Crystal Palace winger for his penalty miss in Janaury.
The 27-year-old has been ordered to pay £15,000 by the FA for his ill-advised response to Warnock, who questioned Puncheon’s mentality to take a penalty in the 2-0 defeat to Tottenham.
The former Southampton player tweeted abusive posts about Warnock, before later deleting them.
The FA charged Puncheon after it found the player had “failed to act in the best interests of the game and/or acted in a manner which was improper and/or used abusive and/or insulting words”.
Warnock made his comments about the winger’s penalty miss on radio station Talksport.
In the analysis he gave, which drew the angry reaction from Puncheon, the former Queens Park Rangers boss said: “There's no way I would've trusted him with a penalty. You've got to have somebody a little bit more cool, and he's not like that, Jason.
“He can whack a 35-yard free-kick in here and there but a penalty, with all the pressure on him at a place like White Hart Lane - not in a million years for me.”
