Italy's first black minister compared to a prostitute

INSULTED: Cécile Kyenge was compared to a prostitute by Liguria's deputy mayor

ITALY’S FIRST black minister has been likened to a prostitute by a fellow politician, as the country’s right wing element continues to show intolerance towards ethnic minorities.

The deputy mayor of Diano Marina in Liguria, Cristiano Za Garibaldi suggested that Cécile Kyenge, 48, spends time in an area used by prostitutes, in a Facebook post.

Kyenge moved to Italy 30 year ago from her birthplace of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and has had to endure a barrage of racial insults, including being compared to an orangutan by former government minister Roberto Calderoli.

However, in recent months the attacks have been more prevalent following her support a law granting Italian citizenship to children born in Italy to immigrants, and for second homes in Italy to be rented out to homeless people.

In July, the politician was pelted with bananas during a speech, while a month earlier local councillor for the Northern League called for Kyenge to be raped, so she would understand the seriousness of the attempted rape of two women in Genoa by a Somali.
