Idris Elba’s ‘Luther’ to make return

RETURN: Elba plays Luther (PA)

POPULAR TV series Luther starring Idris Elba as a trouble police detective is set to make a comeback.

The show will return for two special episodes, the BBC has confirmed.

Luther creator Neil Cross said: “Luther is coming back where he belongs. Back to the BBC. Back to London. And back to work”.

The programme’s return is part of a brand new package of drama coming up for the BBC. Included are a number of crime and history series, while writer Peter Moffat has created a new legal drama about a black woman who becomes the boss of public prosecutions.

Luther was last seen on the small screen in July 2013 and filming for the new episodes will begin in March next year.

Cross added: “Ever since we said goodbye to John Luther on Southwark Bridge, there's hardly been a minute when I didn't wonder what happened next. So I decided to find out.”

The complex character has proved to be one of Elba’s most popular roles and helped establish him as a household name in Britain following his various film leads and breakout part in the critically acclaimed US series The Wire.
