Hurricane Lee strengthens into Category 2 storm

HURRICANE LEE has strengthened into a Category 2 storm Tuesday morning (Sep 26), the National Hurricane Centre said.

Hurricane Lee has maximum sustained winds at 100 mph and is moving west at 10 mph. The system is about 800 miles east of Bermuda and about 1495 miles west-southwest of the Azores.

No coastal watches or warnings are in effect for the Category 2 storm, and so far, Hurricane Lee is seen as non-threatening.

Hurricane Maria has maximum sustained winds at 75 mph and is moving north at 7 mph, according to the National Hurricane Centre. The storm is about 210 miles southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina.

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Albemarle and Pamlico Sounds, as well as from the Bogue Inlet to the North Carolina-Virginia border, the National Hurricane Centre said.

A Storm Surge Watch is in effect for from Cape Lookout to Duck in North Carolina, according to the National Hurricane Centre.
