TARGET: Reid (PA)
ARSENAL ARE hoping to poach centre-back Winston Reid from West Ham over the January transfer window.
The defender would reportedly cost about £4m – a much lower price than he would normally command because his contract at Upton Park is due to expire in the summer.
The 26-year-old is still wanted by the Hammers, but his wage demands for a new deal have proved to be a stumbling block.
Reid is understood to be asking for £60,000 per week and a £1m signing on fee.
The Gunners have sent scouts to watch Reid play since November and have been convinced he would offer extra steel to the north London club’s back line.
Arsenal have also been linked with Ipswich’s Tyrone Mings – a highly rated player who has also sparked the interest of several other of the big clubs, including Chelsea. However, his £10m price tag is likely to keep him at the Tractor Boys for a little while longer.
