Gun crime rises as two shot in Brixton

DOUBLE SHOOTING: Neither of the two victims are said to have life-threatening injuries

TWO PEOPLE are in hospital following a double shooting in Brixton last night.

Police officers were called to Somerleyton Road, Brixton at around 11pm last night.

The officers and the London Ambulance Service attended the scene to find a 34-year-old woman suffering from gunshot injuries.

The woman was taken to a London hospital for treatment. Her condition has been described as non life-threatening or life-changing.

A 16-year-old boy was also shot in the area last night.

He attended hospital but his condition is not life-threatening or life-changing.

The police are investigating the shootings and have not made any arrests as of yet.

Detectives are appealing for information from anyone who may know about the shootings.

The two gun crime incidents are part of a rising number of violent crimes in the capital.

Referring to the spate of incidents, Sadiq Khan said: “Violent crime has been rising nationally, but my team will support the police and carry on doing everything we can to tackle it.”
