LONDON GIG: The cast of Here I Stand

INSPIRED BY the actions of monk Martin Luther, London-based playwright Mervyn Weir has written a musical drama, Here I Stand, which interprets the impact Luther’s actions had and explores what can happen when people take a stand for something.

Here I Stand, features gospel and modern songs, and gives the iconic and true life story of Luther – who nailed his 95 theses to the door of a church in Wittenberg, Germany, 500 years ago, and started The Reformation – with a contemporary twist.

Here I Stand will be staged at Logan Hall based in the heart of London on Saturday (October 21) and will feature Vadé a five piece group who are one of the acts appearing in Sky TV’s forthcoming talent competition ‘Sing: Ultimate A Cappella’, who are part of the fifteen-member cast of actors and musicians.

Weir, writer and director of Here I Stand, said: “When Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses on a church door, I’m sure he didn’t realise how much that action would re- verberate through the corridors of history. His actions highlight that when people make a stand change can and does happen.

“Here I Stand uses Luther’s action as a back drop to examine the concept of protest in our modern times.

“I believe Here I Stand will cause people to think, reflect and re-examine what it means to bring about trans- formational change in society by taking a stand.”
