Gabon star Lemina shines at the Palace

KEY MAN: Saints star Mario Lamina (left)

SOUTHAMPTON MANAGER Mauricio Pellegrino has hailed Saints' midfielder Mario Lamina. Gabon-born Lamina put in a eye-catching display in the recent 1-0 win over Crystal Palace and Pellegrino enthused: “He is the type of player we did not have. He can help us be stronger on the pitch.”

The manager, whose side gained their first league win since August 19, added: “It was an important win for us (against Palace). Winning on this pitch is not easy. The team was really focused. We need to improve though. We have the players with the quality and capacity to keep the ball. To score goals is the most important thing for any team. I congratulate Steven Davis. It is a good present for him. Hopefully he can score more goals for us.

Of defender Virgil Van Dyke - who has indicated that he wants to leave the club - Pellegrino commented: “Virgil came back to play ten minutes. We need everybody. We accept that this is big business. You have to leave aside the situation. Now everything is normal.

"We don’t know how the market will be in January. The other teams will also push to bring the best players. It is normal that the bigger teams in the Premiership want to sign players. “
