Fundraising walkathon at the Olympic Park to help Dominica

DAMAGE: A community group is hoping to raise money for Dominica with a walkathon through the Olympic Park, east London

A COMMUNITY group is organising a walkathon to raise money for the Caribbean island Dominica which was struck by a devastating tropical storm last month.

Members of the community are being encouraged to show solidarity and support for Dominica in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Erika by taking part in a walkathon through the Olympic Park in Stratford, east London.

Organised by the Grandbay UK Dominica Community Alliance, the fundraising walk will take place next week Saturday (Sept 26).

It is a one kilometer circuit, and participants can go around as many - or as few - times at they like.

Organiser Gary John Lewis told The Voice: "This is fundraising with a difference.

"It will be really good for people to come together and show solidarity. We want to send a positive message to Dominica."
