First black Captain America revealed

FRESH START: Captain America is a black man in the new series of the Marvel comic

SUPERHERO CAPTAIN America will be replaced by a black character in the new series of the comic book.

Sam Wilson, Captain America’s longtime partner The Falcon, will be replacing the current Captain America in the new series.

Marvel’s chief creative officer Joe Quesada revealed the news on Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report last night (July 16).

Wilson will officially posses the shield in All-New Captain America #1 by Rick Remender and Stuart Immonen.

"I don't see colours," Quesada said when asked about the ethnicity of the new Captain America by The Colbert Report.

This prompted Colbert to ask, "If you don't see colors, how do you do comic books?"

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wilson is the second former sidekick to take on the Captain America identity in the last 10 years.

While there have been other replacements for Rogers, Wilson will be the first person of colour to appear as the title lead in the comic.
