Fashion Killa! Tinie Tempah debuts his first menswear show

STYLE: Tinie Tempah

BRITISH RAPPER Tinie Tempah is known for his club bangers and eclectic style, and has decided to branch out into the fashion industry with his new debut menswear brand.

The rapper launched the brand called What We Wear at London Collections: Men on Saturday (Jan 7), and his first collection featured a range of athleisurewear; from high-shine tracksuit tops to layered-effect sweatshirts and light, relaxed-leg trousers.

Speaking on his menswear debut, Tinie said: “To be honest with you I see myself as a creative. When you are a musician you become defined by what you do, and being a rapper as well you become defined. I’ve hated the idea of being defined as one thing.”

This first collection, he added, was an exercise in “seeing if I could do it”.

This maybe Tinie's first foray into high fashion, but he previously started his own clothing label Disturbing London, almost 10 years ago. He is also an ambassador for London Collections: Men, and has attended plenty of shows across the years. .

He said his time attending shows, befriending designers, and seeking their advice had been instrumental in giving him the confidence to launch the brand.

“Once I got a little bit of know-how and expertise I thought I would see what I could do. I thought let me make my own contribution. I don’t want people to think I’m stylish just for wearing other people’s clothes.”
