Estelle: I had to get rid of certain people to be happy

HAPPY: Estelle

SINGER ESTELLE has attributed her newly-found “freedom” to being strong enough to let go of some friends.

The American Boy hit-maker, who spoke exclusively to The Voice, said that leaving some friends behind allowed her to evolve musically and helped her become a happier person.

She said: “I have been hurt a lot, I have trusted people a lot. I have trusted myself a lot and I have failed myself.”

“I had to just figure stuff out. I had to forgive myself, forgive other people and get rid of certain people, things and influences,” she added.

The 31-year-old singer, who recently released her new single, Break My Heart featuring rapper Rick Ross, confessed that she still felt “stifled” by things in the past, but had learned to “let things go”.

She said: “I felt like I was responsible for everything and everyone in my life. I was carrying too much and it became too heavy, physically too heavy.”

“[I was] carrying people, carrying things and expectations, and I was sick of it.”

“I had to reassess what I was doing, and I got to the point of not caring about that stuff anymore, and oh the freedom!” She said.

Estelle's new album All of Me will be released later this year.
